Activities & Community

We offer our residents a wide range of activities which includes, visits to local areas of interest, musical entertainment, games and other themed events. We also organise activities for family members to join in and be part of the fun.

Age UK Volunteers

We have strong links with Age UK Bolton. Through AGE UK services the home has and continues to benefit from volunteers that come into the home offering various roles. The volunteers have become good friends of all of our residents.

Age UK have also supported residents strength, balance and Tai Chi training within the home providing classes and training staff so that there is continual practice within the home.

Woodland Trust

The Woodland Trust walks and activities we attend are based around the Smithills and Barrow Bridge area and offer wonderful
reminisce and exercise experience. The walks are informative as we learn about the ever changing wildlife and landscape.

This is a further opportunity for the residents to engage in the local community.

Arts and Crafts

The residents enjoy an afternoon with Jean, creating lots of wonderful creations each week.

The arts and crafts made each week are always inspired by the changing seasons, seasonal occasions or by current events happening in the world.

Greater Manchester Teaching in Care Homes

As a home we are always wanting to learn, share and improve, a big part of this has been our work with GM Teaching in Care Homes Partnership. One of the best aspects of being part of the partnership has been the opportunity to learn about the care service provided in Canadian Schlegel Villages which has help evolve our practice within the home. Our residents have also been involved with sharing and comparing the Canadian care home experience.

We have been able to offer the opportunity for some of our residents to be part University of Salfords zimmer frame research. The residents enjoyed being part of the research.

OT placements

We have been very fortunate to have trainee occupational therapists choose to complete their course placements at The Old Vicarage.

The learning experience not only provides a valuable learning experience for the occupational therapists and staff but also enables residents to benefit from additional support and encouragement to remain fit and well.
